Principal Investigator
Dr. Ana-Maria
Totea

Dr. Ana-Maria Totea is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Greenwich, which she joined in 2023. She previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Huddersfield on a topical formulation project in collaboration with Paxman Scalp Cooling, aimed at enhancing the effect of scalp cooling in reducing chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
Dr. Ana worked in industry as a development scientist in the R&D team of Thornton & Ross between 2019 and 2021, specialising in the development and validation of analytical methods including HPLC following ICH and GMP guidelines.
In collaboration with scientists at the University of Greenwich and partner institutions, Dr. Ana's research group develops innovative drug delivery systems and advanced pharmaceutical platforms. Current projects include the design of in-house 3D printed microfluidic arrays, bioprinted constructs, and melt electrowritten fibrous scaffolds, applied across a range of therapeutic challenges — from tackling methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in cutaneous infections to mitigating chemotherapy-induced alopecia in collaboration with Paxman Scalp Cooling. The group's work bridges formulation science, biomaterials, and precision fabrication to address unmet clinical needs in skin, cosmetics, oral mucosa, and point-of-care diagnostics.
